SRINAGAR, Oct 6: The committee constituted on the orders of Supreme Court today visited districts of Kulgam, Pulwama and Anantnag and took stock of the measures taken for the flood affected people.
The committee has already visited various affected areas of Srinagar district.
The members of the committee visited scores of worst affected villages of Kulgam, Pulwama and Anantnag and inspected the affected areas, assessed the ground realities and saw the present prevailing condition there.
They interacted with the large number of affected people, who apprised the committee members about their woes, plight and sufferings.
The members of the committee Suresh Kumar Sharma, Registrar General, High Court of Jammu and Kashmir (as Convener) and M K Bhardwaz, President High Court Bar Association, Jammu also visited village Surachak and Daulatachak of Jammu district and interacted with the locals and affected people of these villages.
Some dealers/wholesalers of Ware House also met the Convener of the committee in the evening and narrated their plight. They said that since many dealers/businessmen of Kashmir province have lost their goods including record due to unprecedented flood, their counterparts in Jammu have suffered due to non-recovery of payment.
They also brought to the notice of the Convener, a notification SRO 395 issued by the Finance Department dated October 4, 2014 whereby Finance Department has extended the date of filing of VAT returns by those dealers whose record has been lost due to unprecedented flood up to January 31, 2015.
“The dealers who have suffered loss impliedly on account of non-recovery of payment are not being treated at par with the dealers whose record has been lost on account of flood”, they said.
The committee is visiting districts of Udhampur, Rajouri and Poonch from tomorrow.
