JAMMU, Oct 9:  Various areas of Jammu have been plunged into darkness for last three days after the hailstorm that lashed the Jammu region on October 7 evening resulting into uprooting of trees, electric poles and snapping of electricity wires.
Though PDD has restored the power supply in some parts of city by yesterday but various areas in outskirts of the city are still in darkness as PDD has failed to restore the power supply in these areas during last three days.
The snapping of power supply has led to crisis in these localities as water supply has also been hampered for last two days. This has resulted into a lot of public resentment.
The BJP district president Akhnoor, Sukhdev Singh Jamwal and Party district general secretary and former corporator Omi Khajuria have criticized the Government for its failure in restoring power supply in over a dozen villages in the area including Muthi, Barnai, Dream City, Patoli Brahmana, Lalay Da Bagh, Udaywala, Bohri, Colonel Colony, Sangtra Morh By Pass, Anand Nagar, Suriya Vihar , Parts of Gole Gujral and Talab Tillo, Gurah Brahmana and various other villages.
They demanded immediate restoration of water and power supply in these localities failing which the people will come to streets. The two leaders also demanded compensation be paid to people for the damages of their standing crops, trees and houses due to hail storm.
They further expressed concern over increasing traffic jams on Akhnoor road and demanded immediate four lanning of the road. They have made an appeal to the Union Surface Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari in this regard and urged him to approve the file already lying in his Ministry.
Rajesh Gupta another BJP leader said with diversion of traffic to Kashmir valley via Mughal Road the pressure has increased on Akhnoor road and there is a huge traffic jam on this road during the morning and evening hours resulting into problems of the people.
Besides increasing traffic rush on the road, the number of accidents have also increased on it and the Union Government should take immediate steps for its widening which is a long pending demand of the people, he added.
