JAMMU, Oct 10: A delegation of Kissan Federation J&K comprising Hari Chand Jalmeria its president Dr. Ghanisham Singh Charak (State president All India Kissan Sabha), Ashok Sharma (president All J&K Kissan Union), Udey Chand & Arvind Singh of Kissan Sabha, DS Bhatti of All India Kissan Sabha and Astkhar Ali Khan of AJKKU met the Divisional Commissioner Jammu Shantmanu.
The delegation of farmers organizations projected the concern of the farmers and submitted memorandum to the Divisional Commissioner.
The members of the delegation apprised the Divisional Commissioner about the losses suffered by the farmers due to uncertain weather conditions and also by the Pakistan firing on the border areas & LoC. They told that firstly the Monsoon reached the State about three weeks late which affected the sowing of Kharif crops. Later the rain was scanty which affected their growth. The heavy week long rains in September caused floods and land slides which further hit the farmers. Later the storm on October 7 has destroyed paddy crop.
They demanded special Girdawari to assess the loss and adequate and immediate compensation to the sufferers, immediate steps to reclaim the land affected by floods & land slide, steps for peace on borders, shelters for border migrants and adequate compensation to them, all out help for sowing of next crop with free seed & fertilizer, compulsory crop insurance scheme for which Govt should pay the premium, corruption free and quick preparation of PRCs and inclusion of all members of family including children in the ration cards.
