Refugees warn agitation

JAMMU, Oct 10: J&K Refugees Saddar Sabha (RSS) and Akhil Bharatiya Saraswat Brahman Sabha (ABSBS) have demanded implementation of Supreme Court judgment regarding the release of under trials.
Talking to reporters here today the president of two organizations, Pawan Sharma urged the Government to implement the ruling in the State.
Sharma, while highlighting the plight of PoJK refugees and West Pak refugees warned to launch a decisive battle for their rights and one time settlement of their problems as they have been totally ignored by the successive Governments in the State.
He said over 20 lakh refugees are battling for their rights over last six decades and successive State and Central Governments have failed to address their demands. He said the Government should take immediate steps for one time settlement of PoJK refugees’ problems, grant of citizenship rights to West Pak refugees and also settle the problems of border migrants by allotting them five marlas of land at safer places.
Sharma, while expressing concern over negative attitude of Government toward the refugees said hundreds of refugees will sit on indefinite fast on October 18 as on this day lakhs of people were killed in Manawar tehsil Bimber district Mirpur by the fundamentalists.
He said refugees will no longer tolerate discriminative and negative attitude of Government towards them and they have resolved to take their battle to logical conclusion.
He said the refugees who were well off prior to partition were now living in abject poverty and their children have also suffered for two times meal after they were forced to lead an exiled life.
Sharma also criticized the Congress for exploiting these refugees for decades together for its vote bank politics. He however said that after BJP leader and MP Avinash Rai Khanna took up their issues in Parliament a number of times a new hope has generated among them.
