JUTA seeks rescheduling of Special Convocation

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Oct 11: Jammu University Teachers Association (JUTA) has appealed the Chancellor and Pro-Chancellor to reschedule the Special Convocation because of the event falling in middle of some very important festivals.
The appeal was made during an emergency Executive Council meeting of JUTA under the chairmanship of its president, Prof Dalip Singh Jamwal. The members representing all departments of the University expressed their surprise at the choice of the date chosen for the Special Convocation i.e.  October 24 .
The members pointed out that this date falls in the middle of some very important religious and cultural functions. Diwali will be celebrated on October 23 and   Vishwakarma Day on October 24 (which is celebrated by the supporting staff of the University), while Bhaiya Dooj is on October 25. Therefore this is the time of the year when many teachers who are not from Jammu district visit their hometowns and native places within and outside the State to be with their family and relatives. This is obviously also true for students and scholars, the meet explained.
Keeping in view of these facts, JUTA requested the Chancellor and Pro-Chancellor to reschedule the special convocation so that the Jammu University community, both teachers and scholars, are not deprived of their annual opportunity to celebrate these important festivals.
