Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind delegation meets Governor

SRINAGAR, Oct 17: A delegation of the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind led by its Secretary, Maulana Hakimuddin Qasmi, called on N.N. Vohra, Governor, here at the Raj Bhavan today.
The delegation apprised the Governor about their ongoing rehabilitation work for the flood victims in the Valley. They informed the Governor Jamiat is building huts for the affected people whose houses have been completely destroyed due to the floods or those who had no place of their own.
They requested the Governor to intervene for waiving off the interest on loans which are being sanctioned to the flood affected people. The Jamiat also urged that the recent floods in the Valley should be declared as a national calamity.
The delegation requested the Governor to see that the school and college examinations of the current academic session were not deferred in the Valley. They also brought to the Governor’s notice, the severe hardships being faced by the non State subjects as they were not being provided any compensation package for their rehabilitation even when many of them have been living and working in the Valley for many years.
The Governor assured the delegation that the Chief Minister would be informed of their demands.
