JAMMU, Oct 17: Pakistan Rangers broke six days lull with small arms firing for a brief period along the International Border at Makwal in Niki Tawi while Pakistan Army violated ceasefire twice overnight along the Line of Control (LoC) in Balakote sector of Poonch district even as a civilian injured in shelling in Arnia sector on October 6 succumbed to his injuries in the Government Medical College today.
Official sources said the Rangers fired a burst at AMK (Allah Mai De Kothe) post of the BSF in Makwal area of Niki Tawi in Jammu sector at 5.30 pm today, violating ceasefire on the IB for the first time in past six days. The BSF didn’t retaliate. No casualties or damage was reported in the firing.
On the LoC, Pakistan Army opened firing in forward areas of Balakote sector in Poonch district targeting, border areas of Dadot, Panjni Nullah, MS Tekri and surroundings at 9 pm last night. Army retaliated, leading to heavy exchanges till 11 pm.
Again, Pakistan opened firing in the same sector at 9.55 am today. The firing continued till 12 noon.
No damages were reports on Indian side in the firing, sources said. They added that Pakistan Army resorted to firing only and there was no shelling.
Meanwhile, a 50 years old civilian Om Prakash son of Nand Lal, a resident of Arnia town, who had sustained splinter injuries in Pakistan shelling on October 6, died today in the GMC Jammu.
With this, death toll in Pakistan firing and shelling has reached 9. Five civilians were earlier killed in Arnia town, two at Chilyari in Samba and one in Sabjian, Poonch.
