JAMMU, Oct 18: The niche audience of Jammu was mesmerized by the soulful rendering of Morning Ragas in once in a lifetime concert as the Directorate General of All India Radio organized today Akashwani Sangeet Sammelan in 24 cities of India.
The audience was left spellbound as two of the best performers gave a clinical display of their talent in a concert that lasted just a shade over two hours.
The concert began with the Sitar recital by Nayan Ghosh from Mumbai. He presented to the jam pack auditorium Raga Nat Bhairav and Mian Ki Todi. He was accompanied by Ustad Mohd Akram on Tabla from Delhi.
Nayan Ghosh is a gifted artist with excellent command on two diverse instruments the Sitar and the Tabla. Son and disciple of Tabla wizard Nikhil Ghosh and nephew of Panna Lal Ghosh, Nayan has inherited the rich and learned legacy from his predecessors. The master was ably supported by equally embellished artist Ustad Mohd Akram Khan on Tabla of Ajrada Gharana from Delhi.
The sitar recital of Nayan Ghosh was followed by vocal presentation by Vidushi Suranjana Bose from Kolkata. Accompanied by Pt Sujit Shah on Tabla and Debashish Adhikari on Harmonium, she started her presentation with a soulful Thumri in Raag Jogiya “Piya ke milne ki aas”. She next presented Dadra in Mishra Alhaiya Bilawal and Mishra Nat Bhairav, with such finesse that everyone was forced to give her a splendid ovation once she finished her performance. Suranjana concluded her recital with a Thumri in Raag Mishra Bhairavi.
The concert was set into motion with lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Director Tourism Soujanya Sharma, AGM State Bank of India, Jammu, S K Kapoor, Prof Hemla Aggarwal, Principal GCW Parade, Director Radio Kashmir Jammu V K Sambyal and Programme Head Doordarshan Jammu Anjali Sharma.
Senior Programme officer Ravi Magotra presented vote of thanks while the proceedings were conducted by Madhvi Sharma.
The recording of this concert shall be broadcast on the National Hookup of all India Radio on November 2 by all the Kendras of AIR at 11 am.
