New-look DD News channel focusing on ‘balanced coverage’: DG

NEW DELHI, Oct 19: Viewers who followed the coverage of Assembly poll results today on Doordarshan News got a feel of the new-look channel with upgraded content and design — a result of efforts by the public broadcaster to revamp itself in line with the contemporary trends.

According to DD News Director General Archana Dutta, the channel is trying to provide richer content and better presentation along with “good” analysis.

“Our focus was on balanced coverage, on all aspects which are very easily understood. While others showed trends and results which kept on changing, our first results came two hours behind them so as to maintain credibility,” she said.

Dutta, who recently assumed charge, added that the poll coverage in both Maharashtra and Haryana had been extensive with broadcasts from the respective state capitals and the headquarters of the various political parties.

The channel also aired exclusive interviews with several political leaders and made live telecasts of press conferences, she added.

“On social media as well, we were contentiously streaming the results and many tweeted their appreciation of our efforts,” she said.

The changes have come with the public broadcaster looking to ramp up its TRP ratings even as the channel was hit by some recent faux pas which gave it a bad press. (PTI)
