JAMMU, Oct 22:  Twenty-four hour long mass hunger strike by J&K United School Teachers Association in front of Directorate of School Education Jammu, concluded today.
The hunger strike was led by Com  Hari Singh to draw the attention of Education authorities towards the long pending demands of teaching community, viz  pending salary of teachers working under SSA, RMSA, Head 2071, KGBV, pick and choose transfer policy, adjustments of masters and lecturers whose DPC was made in Feb 2014, removal of pay anomalies, selection grade to undergraduate teachers and 17 percent pending DA.
Urging the Chief Minister to personally intervene and resolve the long pending demands at an earliest, the USTA also threatened to launch 72 hour chain hunger strike in near future if no action is taken on their demands.
While addressing the teachers,  Hari Singh strongly condemned the attitude of Education authorities for not paying attention towards the burning issues of the teaching community in-spite of repeated deputations and protest dharnas. The teachers working under SSA, RMSA, Head 2071, KGBV and their families were greatly suffering due to financial constraints as they are without salary for 3 to 12 months, he said.
Addressing the gathering Rajeev Kumar general secretary criticized the authorities for not making the adjustments of masters and lecturers whose DPC was made during February  2014.
Others who addressed the dharna,  includes Julfkar Ali Malik, Dr  Shashi Pal,  Pardeep Singh, Raj Kumar, Shanti Saroop, Ashok Bansal, Sirajoodin, Surinder Magotra, Mohd Nissar, Yash Paul, Kishori Lal, Chander Parkash, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Sham Lal, Sukhdev Singh, Madan Singh, Rattan Singh, Darshan Lal and Surinder Singh.
