JAMMU, Oct 28: Capt Dewan Singh, ADC of former ruler of the State, Maharaja Hari Singh who passed away here yesterday was given an emotional send off today.
People from all walks of life including leaders of various political parties, social and religious organizations attended his last rites. His cremation took place at Jogi Gate Cremation Ground here this afternoon. The funeral procession earlier started from his Manda residence to Nagbani School where his body was placed before the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh as per his will. Later the body was taken to Jogi Gate Cremation Ground for last rites.
Prominent among those who participated in the funeral procession included BJP State president and MP Jugal Kishroe Sharma, Ashok Khajuria, MLA Jammu East, RSS Sangh Chalak Brig (retd) Suchet Singh, NC provincial president, Devender Rana, MLC Ajatshatru Singh, ex Minister Mula Ram etc.
Recalling services of Capt. Dewan Singh, Brig Suchet Singh termed him a great nationalist who always defended Maharaja’s decision to accede with India and rejected two nation theory.
He said Capt Dewan Singh resigned from Government job and decided to remain with Maharaja Hari Singh till his (Maharaja’s) last breath. He said his death was a great loss to nation and end of an era.
