RAJOURI, Oct 30: Two persons were killed while 24 others injured, four of them critically when a bus skidded off the road and fell into 150 ft deep gorge at Budhi Morh near Palma on Kotranka-Budhal road this evening.
Reports said the mishap took place at around 5.20 pm when the ill-fated bus (Canter), bearing registration No. JK08A/4965 was on way to village Nari Kassi in Khah area of Kotranka tehsil from village Lam in Nowshera. The bus was carrying a special party of some people, all relatives to Khah village to attend a funeral of their relative. The bus was under load.
As the bus reached at Budhi Morh, just ahead of Palma, the driver Raj Kumar, lost control over the vehicle at a curve and it landed into nearly 150 ft deep gorge. The locals of the area rushed to the spot and they informed Rajouri Police Control Room and the Police Station. The SHO Rajouri Yash Pal Jamwal along with police force and some ambulances immediately reached there. The locals had already started rescue operation. All the injured were removed to District Hospital, Rajouri.
While 50- year-old Mohd Razak, son of Chandia, resident of Palma succumbed while being shifted to Rajouri hospital, another injured Shamim Akhtar (36), wife of Abdul Rashid, resident of Bagla Mandyala in Keri, died in hospital. Three seriously injured were shifted to Govt Medical College Hospital, Jammu. They were identified as Shakeela (26), wife of Mohd Sharief of Lam, Mohd Yousuf, son of Kala Khan of Lam and driver Raj Kumar, son of Tilak Raj, resident of Nowshera.
SSP Rajouri Dr Haseeb Mughal and some senior officers from the District Administration rushed to the hospital and supervised the treatment being provided to the accident victims. They also assisted Medical authorities in shifting critical patients to Jammu.
Dr Haseeb said the bus was carrying some families from Lam to Khah village in Kotranka to condole the death of their relative. At Budhi Morh near Palma, the vehicle met with the accident and rolled down nearly 150 ft deep the road. Initially, it fell down on a large heap of dry grass and then rolled down into the fields. The rescue and relief operation was also very swift as the locals were already on the job. This also minimized the loss of lives. He also lauded the role of Medical teams which had reached to the spot along with ambulances. The SSP said that cause of accident was being investigated.
