Thousands join Ashura procession

JAMMU, Nov 4: To commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, thousands of mourners from Shia Sect of Muslims today joined the procession of Ashura which was taken out here today.
The mourners wearing black dress were wailing and beating their breasts in memory of Imam Hussain who attained martyrdom in the battle of Karbala along with his 72 companions for upliftment of truth and human values.
Keeping with the past tradition, a Shabiye Zuljina was taken out from the residence of Late Haaji Rustam Ali Khan and a procession of Ashura was taken out from Peer Meetha Sofi Shah.
The procession of Ashura passed through its traditional route via Lakhdatta Bazar, Kanak Mandi, and Residency Road and culminated at Karbala Complex. People from all the religious faiths joined the procession and by installing different stalls of water exhibited that they are with truth because the battle of Karbala was between truth and falsehood.
Syed Amanat Ali Shah president Anjuman-e-Imamia Jammu while addressing the media said that it was a 60 years old tradition and they were sincerely doing their duty for the Shia community by organizing Moharram proceedings along with other Anjumans like Anjuman-e-Haidery New Plot, Anjuman-e-Hussaini Bathindi and All Ladakh Muslim Students Association (ALMSAJ).
Syed Mohd Abbass Rizvi a renowned scholar addressed the gathering. He said “it is our duty to propagate the message of Prophet Mohammad and their grandson Imam Hussain. Thousands of mourners joined the procession enchanting Nohas/Marsiyas and were mourning religiously to pay tributes to Imam Hussain and his companions who were martyred at Karbala 1400 years back.
While interacting with media Prof. Sujat Khan, Secretary Anjuman-e-Imamia Jammu said that their Anjuman was highly thankful to all the communities who have participated in the procession and paid their homage to Imam Hussain. He also thanked the police and civil administration for their cooperation and appreciated the role of ALMSAJ for shouldering the responsibility of maintaining discipline in the procession.
Meanwhile, various processions on the occasion of 10th Muharam were taken out in Mendhar Poonch today.
According to reporters a procession Ashura was taken out from Mukadas Academy Mendhar by members of Shia Sect which later culminated at Imam Bara Gahlad. Moulvi Babar Ali Naqvi, Moulvi Abas Naqvi, Moulvi Azhar Abas Naqvi and Alama Mohammed Abas Zaidi threw light on battle of Karbala on the occasion.
Another procession was taken under the supervision of Moulana Mukhtar Hussian Shah which culminated near Gursai nullah.
