JAMMU, Nov 6: Army and police today busted a hideout of the militants and recovered arms, ammunition and explosives from dense Chaurangal forests in Ramban district and thwarted a plot by the militants to disturb Assembly elections in the State.
PRO Defence Jammu Lt Col Manish Mehta said the Army personnel carried out searches in Chaurangal forests of Ramban district last night after developing specific information about dump of arms and ammunition in the forest area. Police team from Ramban also joined the operation.
During searches, a joint team of Army and police came across a hideout of the militants and destroyed it deep inside the forests. Recoveries made from the hideout included two pistols with magazine, two AK magazines, 37 rounds of AK-47, six pistol rounds, two radio sets, one binocular and iron pellets.
Official sources said the iron pellets were to be used by the militants to fabricate Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs). They added that the recoveries had the potential of causing large scale damage during the elections.
However, Army and Ramban police have thwarted the terror plot by the militants.
