Out of 2000 schools visited by the Director of Health Services in Kashmir Division, 70 have been found in unhygienic conditions in the aftermath of floods in Kashmir. The High Court is considering a PIL and had directed the Director of Health Services to conduct survey. It is unfortunate that 70 schools are running in unhygienic conditions. These should be shut down immediately and reconstruction undertaken in a manner that these become hygienic in all respects for the students to attend. The good news is that the Director of Health Services has found bulk of the freshly reopened schools as hygienic and worth running in present conditions. It is also the responsibility of the school authorities to bring to the notice of the Government any discrepancy happening in the institutions that could become source of threat to the health of the students. It should be remedied without loss of time.
