Working of NGOs

Sir,
This has reference to the article ‘Don’t haunt foreign funded NGO’s DE Nov 3.
The author of the article has advocated that some Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) that have been working sincerely for the masses should not be targetted unnecessarily. There is no doubt that many organisations are devoted to the cause of welfare of masses. But at the same time, it is also true that there are fake organisations that have come into existence to swindle money and look after their personal interests.
In case genuine NGOs do not want to be targetted, and want to work smoothly, they should ensure 100 percent transparency in their dealings and should on their own request the Government agencies, for periodic verification. The donors too should ensure that the money donated is used only in welfare measures and not in anti-social activities or in personal affairs of the people running an NGO. The Government’s recent order asking NGOs not to make payments in excess of Rs 20,000 in cash is laudable, as it will ensure transparency.
Yours etc….
Ajit Singh
