NAGROTA, Nov 7: Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana reiterated today that transformation of Nagrota as Nava Jammu is not a distant dream and aimed to strive for it soon-after the Government is in place after upcoming elections.
Mr Rana, speaking to impromptu gatherings assembled during his tour of the constituency, said the broad features of his vision have caught the imagination of those who realise the need for expansion of the capital city in view of fast growth over the years.
“There cannot be better option than Nagrota which enjoys unique proximity with Jammu and offers a variety of avenues for meeting the residential and commercial requirements of the people believing in growth and development”, he said and pointed to the debate going on about Nagrota’s huge potential and its capacity to fill the vacuum of a formidable destination for expansion of the city. He said extension of greater Jammu towards Nagrota will mean huge fillip in economic activity, generation of jobs for skilled and unskilled workforce besides opportunities of creating infrastructural facilities needed for a satellite township. He said the prospect of Nagrota as Nava Jammu holds promise for economic revolution of the area that has remained unexploited for decades. “Innovative approach is needed to make our dream come true”, he added.
The Provincial President, who is contesting from the constituency as National Conference candidate, referred to the initiatives already taken during the past few years in putting Nagrota on the path of development and progress and said his vision of converting the area into Nava Jammu is not to flaunt a hollow promise, which unfortunately most of political activists indulge in. He said his resolve about Nagrota’s overall growth and inclusive development has been made stronger by the people of the area, belonging to all segments of society, who are keen to change the profile of the constituency. He referred in detail the measures taken with regard to development of roads, laying of bridges, ensuring of public utility services like power and drinking water etc and promised these will get momentum in the near future. He said urbanization of the area will call for a major effort on upgrading these facilities with futuristic perspective.
Giving an overview of the constituency, Mr Rana said the vision of Nava Jammu will mean a unique blend of urban and rural pockets. While urbanization calls for holistic approach to improve facilities, rural pockets will need focused attention towards reinvigorating the rural economy and improving the living conditions of farmers. “This aspect will be taken care of by the newly administrative units which shall be getting enormous funds under the state plan as also various centrally sponsored schemes”, Mr Rana maintained.
While pledging to transform the overall profile of Nagrota constituency, the Provincial President sought peoples’ support in terms of their votes, saying this will strengthen National Conference and enable Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to ach9ieve his mission of united, progressive and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir with opportunities of equitable development to all, irrespective of regional or religious affiliations. He said the Omar led government has laid a strong edifice for steering the state to new pinnacles of progress and prosperity. “Let’s join to become a part of making Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh strong and stable”, he exhorted the people.
