MENDHAR, Nov 8: A mad dog virtually created terror and panic in the entire Mendhar town for about five hours and bitten 26 persons including seven children  here today.
Reports said that this full grown dog infected with rabbies, made his first victim near Bus Stand, Mendhar area at around 8.15 am today. He kept on biting whosoever, came his way. As the number of victims went on increasing, the people started moving away in panic.
Many terrorized people shut their doors and even traders pulled down their shutters. Some youth lifting lathis started following the mad dog to kill while others started pelting stones on the dog.  Most of the victims were children in the age group of 6 to 14 years. The dog started running from here to there followed by people searching for him and even reached at Gohlad and Darana and made some people his victims.
The dog then entered hospital complex and attacked one Mohd Fareed (32), hailing from Bhati Dhar. The villager grappled with the dog and caught hold of it from the neck. He lifted a brick lying nearby and started hitting dog’s head and ultimately killed the animals. In the fight, he was badly injured and was provided treatment in Sub District Hospital Mendhar.
BMO Mendhar, Dr Parvez Khan said that there was dearth of anti-rabies vaccine in the hospital supply and about half a dozen patients were provided vaccine from the hospital supply while others managed from the market.  He said since the number of patients was higher today, they were provided vaccine and each victim would be given six injections. He said Mohd Fareed was seriously injured and bitten at several places on arms and legs by the dog. There is possibility of this mad dog having bitten some more dogs of the area inviting some more trouble. The people should remain alert, Dr Javed added.
