JAMMU, Nov 9: A meeting of the J&K Batwal Welfare Association (JKBWA) was held here today under the chairmanship of Kamal Dass Kaith, wherein the speakers urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to sanction an ‘employment package’ for Batwal Community on the basis of its Ethnographic Study undertaken in 1994 by the Planning Commission of India.
General secretary, JKBWA, RL Kaith told the meeting that on March 15, 1994, on the demand of Batwal community for special economic-cum-employment package for its members the Central Government had launched a study to assess the socio-economic and cultural life of the Batwal Scheduled Caste community of J&K in about forty villages of Jammu region.
He said, on May 3, 1994, the then Deputy Registrar General, GoI, Dr Jain, himself collected the survey report from the Directorate of Census Operations, J&K and returned to Delhi but the special economic-cum-employment package which was demanded from the Government and agreed to, is still awaited.
The association urged PM to seek status report on the petition dated June 23, 2014 forwarded to the Secretary, Social Justice and Empowerment, as nothing in the matter has been heard from him so far.
