Prominent Gastroenterologist delivers lecture in Jammu

JAMMU, Nov 9: The Gastroenterology Department of Government Medical College, Jammu organised a lecture by renowned Gastroenterologist Dr Anil Arora, chairman of Gastroenterology Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi in which GMC Principal Dr Ganshyam Dev Gupta, Dr Sunil Sharma and Dr Bharat Bushan Gupta, former HoDs, Dr Shoket Chowdhary, present HoD and Dr Mandeep K Bhandari, CEO of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), who himself is a Medical Graduate, were present.
Dr Arora discussed recent advances in the field of gastroenterology and hepatology in detail. He appreciated decision of the Government to set up separate Department of Gastroenterology in the Super Specialty Hospital of the GMC Jammu, which, he said, will help the patients a lot. He hoped that the Department would be strengthened so that it could provide better medicare to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Dr Arora also spoke on endoscopic ultrasound. He highlighted new techniques in the field of endoscopy. He also spoke on Fiboscan machine, which can diagnose and predict chances of development of Cirrhosis of liver well in advance in a patient, who are at high risk of developing Cirrhosis of liver like obesity, heavy alcohol consumption etc.
Several prominent doctors of Government Medical College, Jammu and peripheries including serving and retired participated in the programme.
