JAMMU, Nov 9: Two eminent medical experts of Gastro-Intestine Oncology & Urological Oncology streams from the prestigious Gurgaon-based Medanta The Medicity Hospital took part in a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on Advances In Gastro-Intestine Cancer, Bariatric Surgery & Benign Prostate Hyperplasia, here to share their rich experiences, expertise and proficiency with the doctors of Jammu.
The CME programme was organized jointly in collaboration with Doctors of Surgery & Urology from entire Jammu region and Care India Foundation (An Associate OPD Partner of Medanta The Medicity in the State).
Dr Amanjeet Singh , Senior Consultant -Gastro Intestine GI Cancer & Bariatric Surgeon and Dr Rakesh Khera, Associate Director – Division of Urology from Medanta The Medicity Hospital Gurgaon were the experts.
Enlightening the gathering on recent developments, Dr Amanjeet Singh, spoke on the topic “Current Trends in Management of GI Cancer”. He said that Gastric cancer is the most common malignancy and the incidence is steadily increasing in India. The principal treatment modality for gastric cancer is surgical extirpation of tumor along with draining lymph nodes, he added.
Dr Rakesh Khera elucidated on the management of” Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH) especially BPH, which generally begins in a man in 30s, evolves slowly, and most commonly causes symptoms after 50s. In BPH, he added, the prostate gland grows in size, it may compress the urethra which courses through the center of the prostate. It can cause urine to back up in the bladder leading to the need to urinate frequently during the day and night. He explained and also listed other common symptoms such as slow flow of urine, need to urinate urgently and difficulty starting the urinary stream. More serious problems include urinary tract infection and complete blockage of the urethra, which may be a medical emergency and can lead injury to the kidneys, he said.
Chief guest of the session was eminent Prof (Dr ) Sheetal Singh, former Principal GMC Srinagar.
The chairperson at the CME programme was Dr Tariq Azad while Prof Dr Ghanshyam Dev Principal and Dean GMC Jammu was special invitee in the CME.
The programme was hosted by Dr Gurdeep Singh, who also presented a formal welcome address.
Earlier, talking to media persons, Dr Amanjeet Singh said that Medanta was one of the busiest GI-Onco centers in India. “Under the aegis of the ‘Dr Adarsh Chaudhary (Chairman Division of GI-Surgery), we have been active in advocacy and activities to promote the cause of Cancer in Gastro Intestine. We are the most experienced GI-Cancer Centre in India, he added.
Manmohan Singh , Chairman of Care India Foundation, informed media persons about services being by provided by the Foundation, which is a part of Medanta Information Center network.
Sudhanshu Sharma , Head -J&K Marketing & Community Outreach Programme, Medanta Medicity Hospital Gurgaon; was also present on the occasion.
