JAMMU, Nov 14:
A total of 113 candidates are left in fray for nine assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir after the last date for filing the nominations for the second phase of assembly elections in the State ended today, an EC official said.
The notification for the second phase of assembly elections in the State was issued on November 11 and November 14 was fixed as the last date for filing the nominations, an official of the Election Commission from Reasi district said.
“To contest the elections in the nine Assembly constituencies of the three districts of Jammu region, 113 candidates have submitted their nomination papers,” he said.
Three constituencies each of three districts of Reasi, Udhampur and Poonch are scheduled to go for polls on December 2.
“In Gulabgarh, we have received 11 nomination papers, in Reasi we have received 15 nomination papers whereas in Gool Arnas we received 12 nomination papers,” he said.
In the three constituencies of Udhampur district 33 candidates have filed their nomination papers, he said.
“In Udhampur, we received 13 nomination papers, in Chenani 8 and in Ramnagar assembly constituency we received 12 nomination papers,” an officer from the Election Commission office in Udhampur district said.
In the bordering district of Poonch, 42 candidates have filed their nomination papers.
“In Surankote, we got 12 nomination papers, whereas in Mehndar and Poonch Haweli we received 15 nomination papers each,” an officer from the election commission office in Poonch said.
The scrutiny of the nomination papers for the second phase of assembly elections would be held on November 15 whereas November 17 is the last date for the withdrawal of the nominations. (AGENCIES)
