DB directs Divisional Commissioner to file status report

JAMMU, Nov 14: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Advocate Sanjeet Kumar seeking pollution free environment in the State, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice MM Kumar and Justice Tashi Rabstan today directed the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu to file status report.
“In pursuant to the order dated September 10, 2014, a status report has been filed and it only highlights the status of land identified for land fill site at Udhampur. According to the status report, the sanction from the Government, which is pre-requisite is awaited”, the DB observed.
“In respect of other towns, no status has been filed although, detailed reference has been made in order dated 10.09.2014. According to the report filed before this Court by the Divisional Commissioner Jammu, various steps were taken to identify and acquire the land in different towns and municipalities of Jammu division for the purposes of setting up of land fill sites for disposal of municipal waste in accordance with the Provisions of Municipal Solid Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2000”, the DB said.
With these observations, Division Bench directed Divisional Commissioner to file status report in respect of rest of the areas including Udhampur by drawing a road map to complete the acquisition process.
