DEO interacts with representatives of political parties

POONCH, Nov 18: A meeting of representatives of political parties, independent candidates and observers, to acquaint the parties and candidates about various provisions of law pertaining to election campaigning, Model Code of Conduct and Election Expenditure Monitoring Mechanism was held under the chairmanship of District Election Officer (DEO), Poonch, M H Malik here today.
General Observer, 85-Surankote, Shivnarayan Singh Chauhan, Police Observer, Nelli Kumar Subramaniam, SSP Poonch, J S Johar, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mumtaz Ali Chowdhary, RO, Poonch Haveli, Shokat Mahmood Malik besides representatives of political parties also attended the meeting.
While stressing the need of ensuring free and fair election by adhering to the Model Code of Conduct, General Observer, 85- Surankote said that the use of unauthorized posters, banners, defacement of public property and plying of vehicle for election purpose without permission should be avoided and any violations in this respect would be taken seriously.
He asked them to cooperate with the election machinery for conduct of free and fair election. He also asked them to inform the election observers about MCC and any other electoral violation.
Police Observer, Nelli Kumar Subramaniam stressed upon the parties to strictly follow the Model Code of Conduct in letter and spirit for free, fair and smooth conduct of ensuing Assembly elections.
Responding to queries of the political parties, the DEO underlined the need to follow Model Code of Conduct and said that all political parties should work within the ambit of ECI’s guidelines and ignorance of election law cannot be an excuse as all guidelines of the ECI have already been circulated to them.
He appealed to all political parties to take permission for any road show and public meeting in advance. It was emphasized that all vehicles to be used for campaigning by the contesting candidates should have prior permission from the concerned RO. The contesting candidates and their representatives should not paste posters, pamphlets etc without name of printer and publisher, the DEO added.
