MUMBAI, Nov 19: In a setback to former Maharashtra CM and senior Congress leader Ashok Chavan, the Bombay High Court today rejected the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) plea seeking permission to delete his name from the Adarsh scam charge sheet.
The CBI then sought a stay on the order, to appeal against it in the Supreme Court and accordingly, a stay on the order has been granted for four weeks. In these weeks, the lower court which is hearing the Adarsh case,will not be able to initiate any proceedings against Chavan in particular, during the trial. Rejecting the plea, Justice ML Tahiliyani, while issuing the order via video conferencing from Nagpur, said, “the CBI’s application is dismissed. Since an ad interim relief was already in operation for the past six months, it is allowed to stay this order for a period of four weeks.” CBI had earlier moved the court stating that the former Governor of Maharashtra had refused permission to prosecute Chavan in the Adarsh scam and hence his name should be deleted from the charge sheet.
