SRINAGAR : Fire was brought under control, in the Uri -11 power project, where major damage was caused to machinery, particularly cable, a senior officer said this morning. Baramulla, Deputy Commissioner, Farooq Ahmad Lone told UNI over phone that the blaze had been brought under control in the NHPC project yesterday in the afternoon but fire tenders remained inside the power house during night. “During my visit to power house yesterday, I saw major damage caused to machinery, particularly cables,” he said adding that a team of experts was visiting the power house today to assess the damage to power house.
“It may take some time to resume the power generation as cables will have to be imported from a foreign country, Dr Lone said adding let us wait till the expert committee submits its report on the damage caused to the power house. There was no loss of life in the incident,” he added.
Defence ministry spokesman Lt Colonel N N Joshi said a major fire broke out at National Hydro Electric Project (Uri- II) at about 0630 hrs yesterday due to some technical snag in the main transformer of the project .
The Army was approached by the Civil administration at 0730 hrs and immediately forces had come into action along with civil administration and controlled the inferno and saved precious lives and property worth lakhs.
Within an hour, the flames were doused in places easily accessible, however there were places that could not be immediately reached.
No loss of life was reported. Fire caused major infrastructural damage to the power house. The prompt actions of the army fire fighting team and civil authorities by providing assistance resulted in controlling the blaze. (AGENCIES)
