URI, Nov 22: Senior Congress leader and Health Minister, Taj Mohi-ud-Din, who is contesting from Uri Assembly segment, has asked people to vote consciously in the forthcoming assembly polls and reject the candidates who were regular absentees during past 10 years or were involved in an infamous case of custodial murder.
Addressing a series of public meetings at Paranpila, Dwarna, Gingel, Zamboorpata, Daran Gutliyan and other places during his road show, Taj said the contribution he has made to Uri during last 12 years is before the eyes of its residents. He said in the coming years he wants to concentrate on youth of the constituency, their jobs, their rehabilitation, their enterprise etc as the infrastructure in Uri has been upgraded to an extent that it can match one of the better in the State.
Without naming, the Minister said how a particular candidate could ask for votes today when he has remained untraceable during last 10 years, even to his ardent supporters. He said as Rajya Sabha member, he could have given turnaround to the whole constituency but didn’t bother to even pay a visit to the people to know their plight.
Taj criticized PDP for having given ticket to a person against whom a case of custodial murder is pending. He said the leaders of the party were crying hoarse about human rights and here they chose a person under whose tenure a person was killed in official custody.
The Minister appealed people of Uri to exercise caution and not fall prey to these seasonal migrants who have shown that they have no compassion and care for the people of Uri.
Asking people to vote for him, Taj vowed to make Uri as one of the fast developing urban centres of Kashmir which would have its impact felt on national and international levels.
