People block road, cops lathicharge

RAJOURI, Nov 24: The police resorted to lathi-charge  as some villagers from Manjakote area blocked  Rajouri-Poonch highway at Kakora this afternoon.
The villagers from Thandapani and adjoining areas reached Kakora  and started staging protest against the CAPD authorities alleging shortage of ration. They blocked road and disrupted movement of traffic on the busy highway at around 1.30 pm. They were raising slogans against District Administration, Tehsildar and CAPD authorities for not supplying ration.
The SDPO  Manjakote Ravneesh Gupta, along with Naib Tehsildar and TSO concerned and some force men reached there and tried to pacify the agitating villagers not to block highway.
Amidst heated arguments one of the resident of  Thandapani pushed and assaulted the police personnel. The police men tried to capture him but suddenly about 10 -12 villagers attacked the police party with stones.
The police then resorted to lathi-charge on them and got the highway cleared. The mob then disappeared. Two other cops also sustained mild injuries.
The police have registered a case FIR No. 106/ 2014 at Manjakote Police Station against the accused and started manhunt for absconding attacker. The police was also looking for other accused booked in the case. Two persons arrested so far  were identified as  Mohd Kadeer, son of  Mohd Yunis and Zafar Iqbal, son of Muneer Hussain of Thandapani.
