JAMMU, Nov 25: Jhajjar Kotli police today arrested two Punjab based narcotic smugglers along with around six quintals of poppy straw (bhukki) from Salora road on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
As per police sources, based on some specific inputs, police team from Jhajjar Kotli police station laid a naka at Salora Road on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and intercepted an apple boxes laden truck bearing registration number PB07AF-5043, which was on its way to Punjab from Srinagar.
On seeing police party, the driver speeds up the vehicle and tried to escape, but the active cops of the Jhajjar Kotli police chased the vehicle and nabbed the driver along with his associate.
During checking of the truck, police recovered 42 sacks of poppy straw, weighing 576 kilograms. The poppy straw was found dumped between the apple boxes.
The truck and the consignment of poppy straw was seized and both the accused were arrested, who have been identified as Gurnam Singh (driver), son of Sadhu Singh, a resident of Posi, Tehsil Garhshanker, Hoshiarpur Punjab and Amar Singh, son of Hazara Singh of Pakhwal, Tehsil Garhshanker Hoshiarpur, Punjab.
A case under FIR number 145/14 under relevant Sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Jhajjar Kotli police station and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Jhajjar Kotli police station SI Hilal Azhar made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO Nagrota Khaliq Choudhary, SP Rural Rajiv Pandey and SSP Jammu Uttam Chand.
