KUPWARA, Nov 25: Expressing satisfaction over peaceful culmination of the first phase of voting with encouraging turnout, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti has said the trends emerging from today’s polling show an overwhelming desire for change with PDP clearly emerging as the foremost choice for the voters across Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
“People are participating in this election to write a new script in the State’s political history and the trend shows that they are enthusiastically voting for change,” Mehbooba said while addressing a series of election rallies in Langate assembly segment of this border district.
Hailing State administration and Election Commission of India, Mehbooba said it was heartening to note that braving all odds people are participating in the electoral process in respectable numbers not only to vote out the anarchist NC-Congress coalition regime, but keep the divisive forces at bay. “While PDP has undoubtedly emerged as the first choice of the masses, it is to be seen how strong and decisive mandate people are going to hand-over to their party to decisively address the challenges confronting the State,” she said and added that PDP has emerged as the only credible political force in the State to take up head-on the emerging challenges posed by different forces in the State.
“The trends emerging out of the first phase of voting are a matter of great satisfaction for PDP and, I on behalf of the entire leadership of my party assure the people that we won’t let them down and will do justice with their mandate,” Mehbooba said and added that the voting pattern also shows that the new age voters in Jammu and Kashmir vote for the real issues.
Expressing concern over the lack of basic amenities like power supply, drinking water, road connectivity and healthcare facilities in the remote and far-flung areas of district Kupwara, Mehbooba said if voted to power, PDP would revive the massive developmental initiative that was kick-started in 2002 to redress problems people are facing in these areas.
