Malhotra reviews delivery of public services in Jammu city

JAMMU, July 25 : The Chairman Legislative Council Amrit Malhotra today asked the enforcement agencies to implement the fixed rates of daily use commodities to check overcharging during the ongoing month of Ramdan
The Chairman, who was chairing a meeting of officers from Jammu Municipal Corporation, Power Development Department and members of Civil Society reviewed the delivery of public services, especially the position of power scenario.
Representatives from Gujjar Nagar, Khatinka Talab, Dalpatian Mohalla and adjoining areas apprised the Chairman about the problems being faced by them about the overcharging by meat and chicken sellers during Ramdan. They also highlighted other demands and demanded uninterrupted power, at least during the Sheri and Iftar time.
Responding to the demands, Mr Malhotra assured that all necessary steps would be taken to redress their genuine demands. He directed the Commissioner JMC to   conduct regular market checking to enforce the fixed rates of meat and chicken and ensure that quality meat and chicken is sold in the market.
The civil society members also demanded cleanliness and sanitation in and around fish market near Kanji House. They demanded installation of high mast lights in Graveyard near Knaji House.
They also demanded construction of public toilets, installation of designer electric poles and replacement of old electric wires across Jammu city, especially in Veer Marg area.
Mr. Malhotra laid special emphasis on maintaining power supply and asked the Chief Engineer to take all necessary measures to avoid unscheduled power cuts.
He directed PDD to keep close check on power theft which result in power breakdowns to the much inconvenience of the consumers. He called for minimum curtailment of power during the Ramdan days.
He directed the JMC authorities to ensure desilting of nallahs in Jammu city to avoid their choking during the ongoing monsoon season.
Representatives from Sawaz Mandi, Kali Jani and   other   ward apprised the Chiarman about their demands.
Among others, Chief Engineer PDD Shenaz Goni, Commissioner JMC K. L. Khajuria, SE PDD Gurcharan Singh, XEn Trikuta Division T. L. Thappa, XEn Central Division Sunil Kolhi besides representatives of various civil societies were present in the meeting.
