CS reviews post flood relief, rehabilitation

JAMMU, Dec 3: Chief Secretary, Mohammad Iqbal Khandey, today reviewed the relief and rehabilitation process for the flood affected people of Jammu division, in a meeting, he chaired here.
Principal Secretary Planning & Development B.R. Sharma, Principal Secretary Finance, B.B. Vyas, Principal Secretary PDD, A.K.Mehta, and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
Chief Secretary received brief on the latest status from Divisional Commissioner, Jammu and via video conferencing from Deputy Commissioners of Jammu division.
Mr. Khandey directed for extending the ex-gratia announced by the Government in favour of all those families whose next of kin lost their lives due to September floods. He said the ex-gratia package of Rs 5 lakh includes Rs 1.5 lakh from SDRF, Rs 2 lakh from Prime Minister’s Relief Fund and Rs. 1.5 lakh from Chief Minister’s Flood Relief Fund.
While reviewing the status of suitable shelter facilities for flood affected people, Chief Secretary said that those families who choose to stay in rented accommodations will be provided rent to the tune of Rs. 5000, Rs. 3500 and Rs. 2000 keeping in view the area of residence like cities, towns and village respectively. The rent will be provided by the Government for a period of four months.
Meanwhile, Mr. Khandey directed the Deputy Commissioners to ensure that all families whose houses were fully damaged are provided suitable shelter facilities for which directions have already been issued to the R&B Department for construction of suitable pre-fab structures wherever needed for these families.
The meeting was informed that most of the 16 digit bank accounts of the affected people have been received and financial assistance as per norms has been transferred to these accounts. Deputy Commissioners were asked to take necessary steps for facilitating the opening of bank accounts of any remaining flood affected person who does not possess a bank account.
Later, Chief Secretary also chaired a meeting of the State Executive Committee to review the progress under the State Disaster Respond Fund (SDRF).
