JU non-gazetted employees warn stir for reinstatement of suspended Watchmen

JAMMU, Dec 8:  Jammu University Non-Gazetted Employees Union has threatened to go on indefinite strike if the two Watchmen, suspended last week following defacement of a replica foundation stone, were not reinstated immediately.
“If both the suspended Watchmen are not reinstated immediately, the class-IV employees of Jammu University will go on indefinite strike from tomorrow, said Vijay Kumar, president of NGEU, while addressing a hurriedly called press conference on the campus, here today.
Pertinent to mention that Baldev Chand and Sham Lal, working as Watchman in the Jammu University, were suspended on last Friday following the incident of defacement of  a stone replicating inauguration of the university by then Chief Minister Sheikh Mohd Abdullah.
The NGEU president informed that the non-gazetted employees of Jammu University will suspend work and observe token strike for two hours daily from December 9 till both the suspended Watchmen are reinstated.
He alleged that the innocent Watchmen were made scapegoat for the incident, which was outcome of political rivalry among different groups on the campus.
Asking the JU authorities to review the decision of suspending innocent Watchmen, Vijay Kumar warned that the struggle would be intensified if their demand is not considered by the university.
