Probes initiated into girl student’s death because of Folic Acid tablets

UDHAMPUR, Dec 9: Director School Education Jammu and Chief Medical Officer Udhampur have initiated separate inquiries into the mysterious death of a minor girl due to alleged overdose of Folic Acid tablets, which were provided by her school.
The girl namely Shivani Sharma, who was a student of Government Middle School Kotli, Zone Jib, had died last week under mysterious circumstances. However, parents of the deceased alleged that their daughter had died because of overdose of Folic Acid tablets, provided by the school authorities.
A boy of five-years, namely Rahul Kumar of the same school, had also fallen ill allegedly because of consuming the same tablets following which he was admitted to hospital.
Taking serious note of the allegations of parents of the deceased girl, Director School Education, Jammu, R A Inqulabi today directed CEO Udhampur Balbir Singh to conduct an inquiry into the entire episode and submit him a detailed report as early as possible. Strict action will be taken if anyone is found guilty in this case, Mr Inqulabi told the Excelsior.
Meanwhile, reports said that CMO Udhampur Arun Sharma has also ordered a probe to ascertain the quality and quantity of distributed tablets.
