Sonia promises regional councils for Kashmir-Jammu

ANANTNAG:  Alleging that BJP has failed to do anything for the flood-affected people of Jammu and Kashmir, Congress president Sonia Gandhi today said Congress government in the state would not only constitute two regional councils for Kashmir and Jammu, but work for overall development of the state.

Addressing an election rally in south Kashmir, going to polls in fourth phase on December 14, she said BJP has so far made false promises with the people.    “BJP government at the Centre has nothing to do with your sufferings but they are only interested in misleading people and getting the power,” she alleged.    The Congress president said Prime Minister Narendra Modi came here and made tall promises. But, nothing has been done and the ground situation remained same and people continued to suffer in the flood-ravaged areas, she added.    Urging people to vote for Congress. she said the Congress government in the state would constitute two regional councils for Jammu and Kashmir.

“We will work to further boost handicraft, agriculture and tourism,” she announced.

Ms Gandhi said the party will implement the Food Security Act in the Jammu and Kashmir, by which people can get rice at Rs two and atta Rs one per kg.

The Food Security Act, passed by the UPA government, was not implemented in the state by the National Conference and Congress coalition government, she added. (AGENCIES)
