Four days CBI custody for Madan Mitra

KOLKATA, Dec 13: A city court today sent to four days  CBI remand, West Bengal’s transport and sports minister Madan Mitra, a day after his arrest by the CBI in alleged involvement in multi-crore Saradha chit fund scandal.
After hearing the counsels, the Sessions judge of the Alipur Court ordered four days CBI remand of Mr Mitra, who has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation after being grilled over five hours at the CBI office yesterday.
He was arrested for alleged cheating and misappropriation  of funds in connection with the multicrore Saradha scam.
The judge ordered similar remand for advocate Naresh Baloria, who was also arrested yesterday. Advocate Baloria was counsel for Saradha Group chairman Sudipta Sen.
The CBI said the advocate was directly associated with Sen  in collecting funds from the market.    Counsel for CBI Partha Sarathi Dutta had prayed for seven  days CBI custody but the Sessions judge granted only four days until December 16.
The CBI had tough time to get Mr Mitra inside the court  room for hearing as thousands of Mitra’s followers had  assembled inside and outside the Alipur court since morning.
They even broke open the iron barricades to surround the vehicle in which Mr Mitra was driven from Salt Lake to Alipur  for court production. (Agencies)
