ICCR starting fortnightly prog ‘Horizon’ from July 31

Jammu, July 26: Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, Regional office Jammu is going to start a fortnightly programme called ‘Horizon Series’ from July 31.
This was informed here today by the Regional Director of ICCR, Mr. Balwant Thakur at a press briefing today. ICCR primarily addresses its mandate of cultural diplomacy and promotes country’s art and culture outside India but under the horizon series local talent is given the platform to showcase talent.
The first programme of the series will feature the rarest traditional presentation of ‘Geetru’ by Romalo Ram and his group at the auditorium of College for Women, Gandhi Nagar Jammu.
Balwant Thakur further informed that through this new series, ICCR will set a new tradition of fixed calendar of performances in Jammu and there will be fixed dates of the month when the programmes under Horizon series will be organised.
Since the opening of the office of ICCR in Jammu, the centre has organised a Mega Cultural show at Zorawar Singh Auditorium, an International performance of African dances by a cultural group of Zambia at Police Auditorium and an International tour J&K cultural performances in Kazakhstan and Kirgizstan countries.
The objectives of the ICCR are to participate in the Formulation and Implementation of the Policies and Programmes relating to India’s External Cultural Relations; to Foster and Strengthen Cultural Relations and Mutual Understanding between India and other Countries; to promote Cultural Exchanges with other Countries and People; to Establish and develop Relations with National and International Organisations in the Field of Culture; and to take such measures as may be required to further these objectives.
ICCR is about a Communion of Cultures and a Creative Dialogue with other Nations. To Facilitate this interaction with World Cultures, the Council has strived to articulate and demonstrate the diversity and richness of the cultures of India, both in and with other countries of World.
