Janta Parivar

Sir,
This has reference to the article ‘Janta Parivar Initiative’ DE Dec 11.
The coming together of disparate socialist groups is a desperate attempt for  survival.
After Modi jaggernaut rolled over many States like Maharashtra and Haryana, the threat for existence became more  pronounced. Whether these parties can cobble a cohesive opposition, only time will tell. However, it would be a healthy development, if they came with a concrete action plan and policy. A strong opposition is as essential as a strong Government in a democratic  country like India.
But their coming together  has a number of negative connotations. The most obvious of them is their blatant opportunism. But one is not sure whether this oportunism can yield them dividends in the future as they are still seeped in personal egos.
The fact that some of the leaders have been inveterate opponents not so long ago can also lead to rupture.
Besides, the leaders of these parties are not bound by any ideology other than checkmating BJP. The leaders need to put forward an ideology that can help rebuild India.
Yours etc….
