Rape accused hurls grenade on police, arrested

SRINAGAR, Dec 18: A rape accused today hurled grenade on police injuring a cop when police had gone to execute an arrest warrant issued by a local court.
A Police spokesman said that a local court had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against the rape accused Bashir Ahmad Dar, son of Sonaullah Dar of Bumhama in case (FIR no. 367/2007) under Section 376/RPC).
“A police party headed by a Head Constable was deputed to implement the court orders and arrest the accused, who is an ex- militant”, the spokesman said.
He said that police traced Dar who was hiding in a house at Kawari. “However, when the police party reached the house, Dar lobbed a grenade, resulting in injury to a constable. The police party showed bravery and was able to overpower the accused and arrest him,” he said.
The spokesman said that the injured constable was shifted to hospital for treatment.
