Conference on ‘Issues & Challenges in Horticulture Sector’ organised

JAMMU, Dec 22: The Department of Horticulture organized one day State Level Interactive Session-cum-Conference on ‘Issues and Challenges in Horticulture Sector’ in Jammu and Kashmir at Hotel Fortune Rivera today.
Secretary Horticulture Sanjeev Verma inaugurated the conference.
Additional Director (Horticulture Sector) Indian Council for Agriculture Research (ICAR) New Delhi Dr. T. Jankiram was chief guest on the occasion. Principal Scientist, HS (ICAR) also attended the conference.
Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary Horticulture said that aim and objective of the Conference is to enable the officers of the Department to discuss various issues and share latest techniques with the dignitaries of ICAR and experts of SKUASTs of Kashmir and Jammu. He said that the Government is making all out efforts to boost the horticulture sector in the State which has received a major jolt due to the floods in September 2014.
Mr. Verma said that there are some core issues of the department which need to be dealt by taking timely measures. He said the conference provides platform to the officers to highlight their issues and challenges directly with the ICAR an Apex body of the Horticulture and Agriculture Sectors in the country.
The Secretary directed the officers to work with utmost dedication and remain in touch with the orchardists and ensure that each and every assistance should be made available to them. He instructed them to take advantage of this conference so that the optimum benefits reach to the stakeholders at the ground level.
Additional Director (Horticulture Sector) Indian Council for Agriculture Research (ICAR) New Delhi said that the ICAR is keen to help the State Government to boost Horticulture Sector which has suffered a huge loss due to floods. He instructed State Government functionaries to get all the required projects prepared through respective Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVK) under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna (RKVY) scheme and submit it to the Central Government for approval.

Mattoo, AD, HP Aushiq Khanday and Chief Horticulture Officers of Kashmir and Jammu Divisions attended the conference.
