Srinagar, Dec 31: High Court today directed private schools not to hike fee of the students and also not to charge them tuition fee and bus fare for the months of September and October.
“Till next date before the bench, it is provided that these educational institutions shall not increase the fee which is being charged from the students”, directed the Division Bench comprising Justice MH attar and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey, after hearing Advocate G A Lone, the amicus to the PIL submitted before the court that educational institutions have hiked 20 percent fees despite devastating floods.
During the arguments of the case counsel representing some of the institutions stated that they have opened the schools immediately after the flood waters receded as such the direction may not be applied to those institutions.
Court rejected the submissions at the very threshold and told the counsel to be humanistic and have a human heart.
Earlier, Court had directed the authorities of Mallinson and Biscoe, New Era Public School, Presentation Convent, Burn Hall and Dehli Public School not to charge tuition fee and bus fare from the students for the month of September and October, 2014.
Court had earlier also issued notice to 97 institutions running in the Valley after submitting the particulars of these institutions by amicus to the court for waiving of the tuition fee and bus fare.
Court dropped the proceeding against the educational institutions in District Ganderbal after amicus submitted before the court that schools were functioning normally in the district as they were not affected by floods.
