Jammu, Jan 3: Deputy Commissioner Jammu Ajeet Kumar Sahu, today inaugurated the much needed Rehan Basera at Sports Complex, Kanji House, Upper Gumat Bazar.
The Basera was opened by the District Administration in collaboration with Indian Red Cross Society, District Branch Jammu, Jammu Municipal Corporation and International Volunteer Foundation (J&K).
Mr. Sahu said this shelter is open for the poor and deserving citizens of India who spend their nights under the open sky at roadsides and under the flyover bridges during these brutal wintry night.
The Supreme Court has also directed to open such shelters for the needy and shelterless people. This shelter will provide bedding and blankets to keep such people warm during the peak winter season.
Mr. Sahu directed the police to ensure that no such person should sleep openly on the footpaths, grounds, roadsides, parks,etc and any such persons found should be shifted immediately to the Rehan Basera. Mr. Sahu appreciated the efforts of the collab agencies, volunteers, local people and nearby shopkeepers who came forward to support this noble cause.
The dignitaries present on the occasion were Suresh Sharma, Executive Secretary, District Red Cross Jammu, R.C.Puri, Hony. Secretary, Red Cross Jammu Region, Yougal Mahajan, Patron District Red Cross Jammu, Kaka Sardar Ji, Kiran Kumar Sharma, social worker and Chairperson, International Volunteer Foundation.
