“Proclamation of Independence” by Mujahid I Mughal (DE January2,2015 ) formed a very interesting reading. The open letter written to Syed Ali et.al.is an important piece of study for each and every citizen of J and K state(rather for entire India). He is right in pointing out that a common man is more interested in earning two square meals for his own self and his family than in the fact that who is the ruler; for him BJP,NC, Congress,PDP or any other political party doesn’t matter much, also it is immaterial as to who is ruling at centre or in the state
As the author belongs to an economically as well as geographically backward family which forms the real example of sons of the soil who have been victims of harshness of racism, communalism ,regionalism, casteism and faced bullets of the militants in addition to the vagaries of the nature. He forms a real example of a common Indian citizen living below the poverty line who has strived hard to survive in the most unfavorable environment. He has depicted everything based on his own experience. So to say, it is his own story, nay the story of millions of other country men like him, who instead of taking to gun, took the path of sane and civilized citizens for his survival. His analysis shows that a common man is tired of corruption,racism,castism and is a victim of atrocities of militants as well as the past rulers.
His letter though meant for syed Ali et. al . is actually and equally applicable to the victors of the recent assembly elections of the state, especially the two major political parties emerging at the recent Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. Only this combination can be effective(the other combination s would be more vulnerable) stable and successful if taken to govern sincerely . They should read the contents of his letter between the lines and work together for the development of the state which has undergone an irreparable loss during the last two decades or more. Both the partners should leave aside their differences and biased agenda, work together for developmental works, elimination of corruption, eradication of regional , caste based and religion based bias which has been prevalent in the past.
