JAMMU, Jan 6: Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Shantmanu today reviewed arrangements for the Lohri festival being organized by Department of Tourism to showcase the culture and heritage of Jammu and promote cultural tourism in the State.
The Department of Tourism in collaboration with district administration, travel and trade industry, Raghunath Bazar Business Association is organizing the event.
It was decided in the meeting that the Lohri festival will be held on of January 12 & 13. The inaugural function will be organized at Bagh-e-Bahu on January 12, and festival will culminate with the valedictory function at Raghunath Bazar on January 13, 2015. It was also informed that Joint Director Tourism will be the nodal officer for the festival.
The festival will showcase the culture of Jammu including songs and dances, heritage and ethnic food to promote tourism. Shopping bonanza will be offered by the Raghunath Bazar Businessmen Association during the festival by way of discounts etc.
The meeting held detailed discussion on various issues regarding the inauguration of festival, valedictory function, proposed sub-committees for organizing the various events, band display, illumination of Bahu Fort/ Bagh-e-Bahu garden, cultural programmes , food festival by Hotel Association and JKTDC, ethnic food stalls, besides various other related issues were also discussed.
The Divisional Commissioner necessitated the significance of enhanced synchronization among all concerned agencies to ensure better arrangements and avoid any inconvenience to the participants and the public as well. He directed them to gear up their men and machinery to make all arrangements well in time.
Among others, DIG Jammu Kathua Range Shakeel Beig, DIG BSF Sunil Mohan Mehta, DIG IRP Jammu Sham Sunder Sharma, SSP Jammu Uttam Chand, SSP Traffic Mohan Lal, Director Doordarshan Jammu Anjali Sharma, Director Floriculture K. K. Sharma, Joint Director Tourism Dr. Narupa Rai, Deputy Director Tourism Javaid Iqbal, Deputy Director Health Dr. Gurjit Singh, other senior officers besides Chairman JPVM Ravi Mahajan, Vice President Inderjeet Sharma, Secy J&K Dharmarth Trust Shashi Khajuria, Founder Chairman Tourism Promotion Council V. K. Sehgal, President Raghunath Bazar Association Baldev Khullar and representatives of various other associations were also present.
