JAMMU : Jammu and Kashmir government has identified over 3,100 kanals of land in Kathua district with an aim to shift the victims of cross border firing in the bordering hamlets. “So far 3,105 kanals of land has been identified in Hiranagar sector of Kathua and detailed reports have been submitted to MoS PMO Jitendra Singh during his visit to the forward villages today in the bordering belts,” Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Deputy Commissioner Kathua here told.
Dr Choudhary said the process is still in progress as more land will be identified for the affected families which will be allotted to them as per the norms set up by the Central Government.
“There are around 5,000 families in 57 villages who are victims of the cross border firing and the Centre is working on the task and the final announcement of allotting the land will be made soon,” he added.
He said the Revenue Department of the state government has identified the land and now the final allotment has to be made by the Centre on certain conditions.
However, Dr Singh has also sanctioned Rs 5 lakh from his MP Fund as a relief for the border migrants during his tour to Samba and Kathua districts this afternoon.
