BSF bunker damaged as Genset explodes

POONCH, Jan 10: A BSF bunker was totally damaged after it caught fire with the explosion of a power Genset installed near it closer to the Line of Control in Krishna Ghati area of Menndhar in district Poonch last night.
Reports said a bunker No. 72 of 88th battalion of BSF located in Balnoi area of KG sector caught fire at around 9.30 pm. The mishap took place when the jawans tried to start the Genset installed near the bunker. It suddenly caught fire and then exploded. Its oil spread around and also fell on the nearby bunker resulting into massive fire. About half a dozen jawans who were inside, rushed away along with weapons and had miraculous escape.
Two jawans sustained minor injuries and were given first aid. Their clothes, beds, cash, ration, some ammunition etc was destroyed in the major fire. The Army jawans from a nearby camp rushed there besides some BSF men. They were then shifted to other location and temporary arrangements were made for the bunker jawans.
Meanwhile, massive forest fire engulfed a large area in Balakote sub sector of Mendhar since last night. The fire spread from the PoK side and then started covering a large area on this side of LoC. Dozens of mines were exploding since last night with the spreading of fire. Army and Forest staff have sounded alert in the adjoining hamlets.
