JAMMU, Jan 14: As a part of ongoing 26th Road Safety Week, Motor Vehicle Department in collaboration with Government Polytechnic College (Boys) Bikram Chowk organized a debate competition here today.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Shantmanu was the chief guest on the occasion. Among others, Joint Transport Commissioner, G.A. Sufi, Deputy Transport Commissioner, M.L. Raina, SSP Traffic, Mohan Lal, RTO Jammu, Arvind Kotwal, ARTO Kuldeep Singh, Prof. Ravinder Singh, MVD Inspectors besides senior officers of different departments were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Divisional Commissioner urged the students to adopt road safety measures apart from spreading message about need for observing traffic rules and said that properly following the traffic norms can prevent serious road accidents to a greater extent. He lauded the efforts of MVD for organizing debate competition and other activities during the week which can help in highlighting the message of road safety among the general public.
Joint Transport Commissioner appealed the participants to follow traffic rules which help in preventing many road accidents and make road journeys less stressful, adding that civil society has a pivotal role in encouraging every section of society to join hands towards making roads safer. He said that efforts are being made by the concerned departments to minimize road accidents.
RTO Jammu informed that a painting competition and awareness camp would be organized on January 15 & 16 at Kala Kendra and at Maheshpura Chowk.
About 57 students from 27 schools and 3 colleges participated in the competition, G.A Sofi, Joint Transport Commissioner, M.L Raina, Deputy Transport Commissioner and Dr. Ravinder Singh, Associate Professor, Department of English, University of Jammu were the judges on the occasion.
The winners of the debate competition will be felicitated on January 17 in the award ceremony to be held at Gulshan Ground.
