SRINAGAR, Jan 14: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) today carried out mock snow clearance drill at SK Park near Lal Chowk.
The drill was kicked off by Commissioner Dr Qasba and he conducted test drive of various machines to check their proper functioning.
SMC in this regard has also charted out a detailed plan to clear snow from the city areas. The city has been divided into four zones which would be supervised by four zonal officers for snow clearance and dewatering operations.
“We have also chalked out detailed plan for priority areas where snow will be removed in the first phase to avoid any inconvenience to the public. All essential installations like hospitals, power stations, shrines, mosques, ration depots and other places of importance will be attended to swiftly in the wake of fresh snowfall,” said the Commissioner.
The Commissioner said that they have already alerted its 2700 ground staff and instructed that all necessary snow-clearance machines including robots, hoppers, catterpillers and dozers are kept on a standby mode so that that they are mobilised immediately on the day of snowfall.
