JAMMU, Jan 15: The displaced persons (DPs) from Pak occupied Jammu and Kashmir staged strong protest demonstration in support of their demands and warned the Kashmir based political parties and Valley based leaders including Separatists not to play with the fire.
A large number of displaced persons including women activists under the banner of PoJK DPs’ Front-1947, 65 & 71 assembled at Press Club this morning and started strong protest demonstration in support of their long pending demands. Capt (Retd) Yudhvir Singh Chib, president of the organization, was leading the protest.
The displaced persons shouted slogans against Government, NC and PDP leadership and Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani for their anti-refugee mindset. They alleged that Government has failed to mitigate the sufferings of thousands of displaced families struggling for their rights for the last over six decades. They demanded their one time comprehensive settlement. The protesters were carrying banners and placards in hands depicting their demands.
Launching scathing attack on Hurriyat and other Kashmir centric parties NC and PDP, the refugee leader (Capt Yudhvir) alleged that National Conference and PDP leadership has been exposed and it is also very clear that they are not in favour of providing justice to the refugees. He said the statements of Ali Mohd Sagar, Geelani, N A Wani from NC, Er Rashid MLA and even Naeem Akhtar from PDP clearly indicated that they are against the settlement of refugees and even citizenship rights to WPRs and de-freezing of eight Assembly seats besides reservation to the wards of refugees.
Capt Chib warned these leaders not to play with the sentiments of the refugees. It is just like playing with the fire. The refugees are frustrated lot and they have faced the brunt of every adverse situation. They are bold enough to teach lesson to those speaking against them. They do not fear anybody except God and can go for even the direct action if anybody tried to speak against them. Capt Chib said that refugees are struggling for the last over 67 years for their legitimate rights and no power on the earth can deny them the rights.
The PoJK leader appealed all the bodies of DPs to get united for further course of action. He alleged that NC-Congress coalition Government has only duped them by forwarding package to Delhi. It was just game plan to grab the vote bank of refugees. He asked the refugees to remain united on the issue and teach lessons to Valley based leaders speaking against them.
He also demanded that the left out DP families be registered without any delay, ownership rights to the DPs of 1947, 65 and 71 be given to all the DPs residing in Kathua, Samba, Jammu and other parts of the region. Mr Chib also sought reservation for the DP youth in professional and other colleges and institutes besides in Govt jobs.
Prominent among others included R S Chib, Jaipal Sharma, Sakandya Devi, Kulbir Singh and Kuldeep Singh.
