SRINAGAR: Security forces arrested an alleged
top Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) commander in the apple township of Sopore in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, official sources said here today.
The arrest of the top LeT commander identified as Abu Mawya comes less than 24 hours after five militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in south Kashmir district of Shopian.
A LeT militant was killed on January 14 in an encounter in Sopore.
Sources said following intelligence information about presence of militants in Choora in Sopore, Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a joint search operation in the area.
During the search operation, security forces zeroed in the militant and asked him to surrender. They said the militant surrendered willingly, without putting up any fight.
